Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about MiTherapists.com — whether you're looking for care or looking to grow your practice.
MiTherapists.com is Michigan's dedicated mental health professional directory. We list licensed therapists, counselors, social workers, psychologists, and other mental health professionals across every city and county in Michigan.
Unlike national directories, we are exclusively focused on Michigan — which means more relevant results, better local coverage, and a resource built specifically for Michigan residents seeking care.
Yes, completely free. Searching the directory, viewing profiles, and contacting providers costs nothing. There are no sign-ups, no paywalls, and no hidden fees for anyone seeking care.
All listings begin with verified licensing data from the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA). Every provider listed holds or has held an active Michigan license.
Practitioners can then claim and enhance their profile by adding photos, specialties, insurance information, contact details, and a personal statement. Claimed and completed profiles appear more prominently in search results.
Our directory is seeded from LARA's publicly available licensing data, so every original listing corresponds to a real Michigan license. However, license status can change — we recommend verifying current licensure directly on the Michigan LARA website before beginning treatment.
Use the search bar at the top of the page to search by name, city, specialty, credential type, or keyword. You can also browse by location or clinical specialty using the directory collections.
Filters let you narrow results by insurance accepted, session format (in-person or telehealth), populations served, and therapeutic approach.
Each credential reflects different training and scope of practice:
- LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) — master's-level training in counseling, mental health treatment, and psychotherapy
- LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) — master's-level training with a focus on social systems, therapy, and case management
- LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist) — specialized training in relational and family systems therapy
- Licensed Psychologist — doctoral-level training; can conduct psychological testing and assessments in addition to therapy
- LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker) — master's-level social work with clinical supervision requirements
All are qualified to provide talk therapy. Your choice may depend on your specific needs, insurance coverage, or preference.
Yes. Practitioners with claimed profiles can list the insurance plans they accept. You can filter search results by insurance carrier to find providers who are in-network for your plan.
We recommend confirming insurance acceptance directly with the provider before your first appointment, as panel participation can change.
Yes. Many Michigan therapists offer telehealth sessions statewide. You can filter the directory by session format to find providers offering virtual appointments, in-person sessions, or both.
Claimed profiles display the provider's preferred contact information — phone number, email, and/or website. Contact them directly to inquire about availability, fees, and whether they're a good fit for your needs.
MiTherapists.com does not schedule appointments or act as an intermediary between clients and providers.

No. MiTherapists.com is an informational directory. Listing on this site does not constitute an endorsement, recommendation, or quality certification of any provider. We encourage you to do your own due diligence — read profiles carefully, verify licensure, and schedule an initial consultation to assess fit.
Very likely, yes. Our directory is built from Michigan LARA licensing data, which means nearly every licensed Michigan mental health professional already has a profile. Search your name on the site to find it.
Unclaimed profiles display basic information only — your name, license type, and general location. Claiming your profile lets you add everything that actually converts a searcher into a client.
Visit our membership page to get started. After selecting a plan, you'll be directed to our profile submission form where you can add your photo, specialties, contact information, insurance, and more.
A complete MiTherapists profile includes:
- Professional headshot
- Personal statement describing your approach and philosophy
- Clinical specialties and areas of focus
- Therapeutic modalities (CBT, EMDR, ACT, etc.)
- Populations served (adults, children, couples, LGBTQ+, etc.)
- Session format — in-person, telehealth, or both
- Insurance accepted and session fee range
- Sliding scale availability
- Practice name, address, phone, email, and website
- Credentials, degrees, and license details
- Professional references
If you hold an active Michigan mental health license and don't see yourself in the directory, it may be because your license was issued recently after our last data refresh. Contact us at admin@directoryonlinesvc.com and we'll get you added.
MiTherapists.com offers a single membership tier at $19.97/month or $197/year — a significant savings over the monthly rate. Both plans include full access to all profile features with no limitations.
We also periodically offer promotional rates. Check the membership page for current offers.
Your basic profile — name, license type, and location — is listed for free automatically from LARA data. A paid membership is required to unlock your full profile: photo, specialties, contact info, insurance, personal statement, and verified badge.
We occasionally offer promotional codes for a free subscription period. Follow us or check the site for current promotions.
Psychology Today charges approximately $29.95/month and is a national directory competing for attention across all 50 states. MiTherapists.com is exclusively Michigan-focused, which means:
- Every searcher on our site is specifically looking for Michigan care — no dilution from out-of-state results
- Lower cost — significantly less per month or year
- A growing directory built specifically for Michigan's mental health community
- Direct LARA data integration means your profile exists before you even sign up
We recommend MiTherapists.com as a complement to, or replacement for, larger national directories depending on your practice's location and goals.
Yes. You can cancel at any time from your account. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you retain full access until then. We do not charge cancellation fees.
We offer a full refund within 7 days of your initial purchase if your profile has not yet been submitted. Once a profile is published, the subscription is considered fulfilled for that period. Annual subscriptions follow the same 7-day window. Please see our full Refund Policy for details.
Email us at admin@directoryonlinesvc.com with your updates and we'll apply them promptly. A self-service profile editing dashboard is on our roadmap for future release.
If you cancel, your profile reverts to an unclaimed placeholder displaying only your basic LARA licensing information. Your submitted details are retained in our system for 90 days in case you choose to reactivate. After 90 days, submitted content is removed.
Basic license data comes from Michigan LARA. If it's inaccurate there, the correction should be made directly with LARA. If the data on our site differs from what LARA shows, contact us at admin@directoryonlinesvc.com and we'll correct it.
Email admin@directoryonlinesvc.com with your removal request. We'll process it within 2 business days. Please note that because the underlying data is public LARA information, we may be unable to permanently suppress it if the data is refreshed in future updates.
Yes. All profiles — claimed and unclaimed — are publicly indexed by Google and other search engines. A complete, claimed profile with your name, city, and specialties significantly improves your chances of appearing in searches like "anxiety therapist Grand Rapids MI" or "EMDR counselor Kalamazoo."
Claimed and fully completed profiles rank above unclaimed placeholders. Within claimed profiles, completeness matters — profiles with a photo, personal statement, specialties, and contact info are surfaced more prominently than sparse profiles. There is no paid placement or pay-to-rank model. Every member is on equal footing.
Both. Clients searching for in-person care filter by city or county. Telehealth providers can indicate statewide availability, which means your profile is visible to anyone in Michigan searching for virtual care — regardless of where you're physically located.
